Bayou La Batre's mayor, Stan Wright, and his daughter are in hot water after being indicted on Friday afternoon.
They are both accused of defrauding the federal government after Hurricane Katrina.
Authorities are saying Mayor Wright profited in 2007 from selling a piece of land to the city as part of a $15.7 million federal grant to build houses for victims of the hurricane.
They say Wright tried to conceal a conflict of interest by transfering the property over to his daughter.
News 5 spent Saturday in Bayou La Batre and people living in the small community, for the most part, didn't want to comment on camera. They say they are worried to speak about the allegations to the media because it is a small town.
If convicted of these allegations, the Bayou La Batre Mayor faces 20 years in prison.
News 5 will continue to follow this story and bring you the latest information.
