Bayou La Batre Mayor Stan Wright has been indicted on new charges by a federal grand jury. The new charges include conspiracy to commit wire fraud and retaliation.
Wright and his daughter, Mary, were first indicted in September on Conspiracy, theft and money laundering charges.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Stan Wright transferred some property to his daughter, who then sold it to the city for $27,000 and gave the money to her parents.
The city said it needed extra land to expand the entrance to Safe Harbor, a development to help families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Safe Harbor was paid for with FEMA grant money.
The new indictment also charges Janey Galbraith, Bayou La Batre's grant writer, with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
