In a world where business is down and unemployment is up, the Ryla call center in Saraland is giving local job seekers a glimmer of hope for the holidays.
"I got laid off tuesday from my last job," said one job seeker. "And I have a 20-month-old, so I was like, something has got to give."
"Any job is great, because it's hard times for everyone," said applicant Vernon Wilson.
The Alorica agency wants to almost double their staff - hiring 250 new customer service representatives by the end of the year.
"If you like to talk on the phone, if you like to play with cell phones, we're your company," said Ryla Human Resources representative Jabaria Jenkins. "It's a fun environment, it's interactive, it's high energy."
They stress the fact that they're not telemarketers. Instead of making the calls, they wait for the calls to come to them.
Their one and only client is Verizon Wireless, so if you do get hired, you can expect customers calling you asking anything from how to pay a bill, to how to download an app.
And HR representative Jabaria Jenkins says even though their younger employees are more tech savvy, their older candidates have better people skills. In other words, they're encouraging everyone to apply.
For the next few weeks the Ryla call center is encouraging job seekers to walk into their office and possbily get hired the very same day.
To qualify, you need to be over 18-years-old with either a high school diploma or a GED. The job starts at $9 an hour.
