FEMA issued a statement on Tuesday, saying that for some survivors, their request for federal assistance depends on insurance settlements and the need for additional information.
FEMA says it's prohibited from duplicating benefits from insurance companies and other sources, which is why it asks applicants for insurance information and why some people may receive letters saying they are ineligible as their insurance company processes their claim.
The agency is urging anyone with questions should contact FEMA or go to a disaster recovery center.
