UPDATE 7:46 p.m.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office has charged Chief Pledger with the following:
1. Firing into an occupied building
2. Filing a false police report
3. Tampering with evidence.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office arrested Elberta Police Chief Mickey Pledger for making a false report. The arrest stems from a report the chief made two weeks ago.
The chief said that someone tried to "kill him" outside the police department.
Chief Mickey Pledger says a man hiding behind a tree ambushed him, pulled a gun and opened fire.
Pledger returned fire and went after the man, but the chief says he slipped and fell into a bush and the suspect got away.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office will give us more details tonight. A press conference is being held at 8:00 p.m. Look for an update right here on wkrg.com and a live report on News 5 at 10PM from reporter Steve Alexander.
