LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is issuing an emergency appeal for donors with O-negative blood.
O-negative is crucial for trauma patients and emergency surgeries because anyone can accept that blood type. But only about 7 percent of Americans are O-negative.
LifeSouth is also short of O-positive blood. About 85% of Americans can use O-positive.
Anyone 17 or older, or 16 with parental permission, weighing a minimum of 110 pounds and in good health may be able to donate. A photo ID is also required.
