Press secretary Jennifer Ardis said Tuesday that the governor supports the legislation and "is going to sign it."

She said the governor has been reviewing the bill along with other legislation that passed last week in the session's final days. The bill banning abortions performed at or after 20 weeks into the pregnancy received final approval Thursday in the closing minutes of the 2011 regular session.

Ardis said she expects the governor to sign the bill before the end of the week.

The bill by Rep. Kerry Rich, R-Alabaster, also requires abortion providers to keep extensive records on the number and types of abortions they perform.
