22 people were hurt Monday morning when a tour bus carrying high school students hit a tractor trailer on I-10 East.
The accident happened just after 12:30 in the morning near the Grand Bay exit. The bus was carrying students with the Del Rio, Texas marching band. It hit an overturned tractor trailer.
The 48 students and two chaperones were on their way to Orlando for a performance. 21 teens and a chaperone were hurt. One person had to be life flighted to USA Medical Center and two of the injured were admitted to the intensive care unit. The other injuries were minor, "tractor trailer had overturned in the roadway and the bus of course was travelling east bound, did not see the tractor trailer that was still in the road way," said Alabama State Trooper Greg Eubanks.
Troopers are still investigating what exactly happened on I-10 and why the tractor trailer overturned in the first place.
