While lawmakers scramble for a solution to the country's debt crisis, local families are caught in the crossfire of the debate.
Keith Tillman, 78, counts on his Social Security check, and he's not alone.
On August 3, millions of Americans, including more than a million in Alabama, fear the system they paid into will not have the money to pay them back.
"If it don't come, we're gonna lose our house," said Tillman of Brewton.
Brenda Powell relies on a disability check.
"I've had two strokes and frustration and stress doesn't help me," says Powell. "When you can not rest because you're worrying, am I gonna get my money? Am I gonna lose my home? Am I gonna be able to pay my bills or eat? That does put stress on a person."
Just down the road Robert Bradley also waits with worry. After 27 years in the military, he depends on his military retirement check to make ends meet.
"I'm going to default on all my loans," Bradley says.
