Police say an Elberta man attacked his wife with a knife while she was still asleep Saturday morning. Eveyln Polk was stabbed multiple times in the head and chest. Evelyn managed to escape and run to a neighbor's house to call 911, but before police could arrive, her husband pullled a gun and shot himself.
Eddie Polk was pronounced dead at the scene. Evelyn Polk was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. She's expected to be okay.
It happened early Saturday morning at the couple's mobile home on Daw Road off County Road 83. Investigators say just two days ago, Eddie Polk tried to kill himself. Investigators say Polk tried to overdose on prescription sleep pills.
