We typically don't think of the beach as a winter, vacation destination, but Pleasure Island is quickly becoming a popular holiday getaway.

Hotels, condos and vacation rental companies are turning big Christmas profits. Rental agencies are reporting a 40 percent increase in sales compared to Christmas 2010.

People from across the U-S have discovered Pleasure Island as the perfect place to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve. Thousands of families from up north are trading in the slush and the snow for surf, sand and sunshine.

It's not too late to book a room or a rental house in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for New Year's Eve. Many rental companies are offering last minute discounts and specials.
