They're returning home from Afghanistan this Friday. But the parade almost had to be called off. It took an anonymous donor to swoop in and make this parade happen.
There are about 175 guardsmen in the 1165th Military Police Company. But they're coming into Hattiesburg Mississippi and were going to be stationed there until the 29th. But for families here not having these guys home for Christmas was not an option.
So a donor stepped up with $5,000 to bus the guardsmen in.
“Like most businesses and I think the military is no different, they're working small staffs and we want to get them home from camp Shelby and there was some issue in processing out at camp Shelby and we were able to get them home. They are going to have to report back next week to finish they're out processing, but the most important thing is that they are going to be home with their families for Christmas holiday,” said Sherry Sullivan of the City of Fairhope.
And the city is asking as many people as possible to come out to welcome the guardsmen home. The parade starts at about 9:30 a.m. on Church Street in downtown Fairhope.
