A parade of lights, sirens and motorcycles escorted a hometown hero down Baldwin County roads to a city park filled with family and friends. Marine SSGT Johnny Morris is home. "I knew that my family and everyone supported me but this is amazing and it's been this way since I got hurt."
His tour of duty interrupted by a landmine that exploded and took his left leg below the knee. His long journey home included a marriage, a baby boy and a reunion with his mother who hadn't seen him since September, before he could walk again. "She hasn't been able to see him. Not like I have, she knows he's going to be fine now," says his Dad, Johnny "BJ" Morris. His recovery continues. More surgery is possible and more rehabilitation. "The bone has started to grow out the side of my leg. That might have to be operated on so that might be the only drawback I have. When I get back I'll start working on running. As long as I can run I can stay in the Marine Corps and do everything I did before." Along with all the hugs, tears and smiles, plans for the future. "Just spending time with the family is good. Haven't been home obviously in a long time," he says. "We're going hunting," adds his Father. "We're going to spend time. Catch up. Spoil the kid." A wounded warrior is back with family and friends who are grateful for his recovery and his return.
