Dauphin Island firefighters are working to control a fire that has continued throughout the weekend. The blaze started around 4 o clock last night, and jumped the break after dark.
Firefighters have been fighting the flames in the Bird Sancturay all day, trying to protect the campground and surrounding areas.
The Alabama Forestry Commission has helped fight the flames, along with the Alabama Port Fire Department.
They believe it started from a lit cigarette near the Dauphin Island campground.
The campgrounds were evacuated Saturday night, but campers were allowed back in a few hours later.
At one point spectators reported seeing flames 30 feet in the air.
Volunteer Fire Chief Brad Cox says this is his first major fire since he was badly burnt last year. He's glad to be back at work with his firefighter family.
