A report in an Internet news journal suggests Omar Hammami may still be alive. The Long War Journal posted a song sung by Omar Hammami himself, which is currently featured on a jihadist website. The website posted the Islamic rap-style song singing the praises of jihad, or holy war.
"In the clumsy, rap-styled song, Hammami glorifies death while waging jihad and asks to die like other notorious Qaeda commanders," claims The Long War Journal.
According to the article, the lyrics, in part, say:
"Killing the oppressors and being killed in the process
The most beautiful end but how can I express
I profess and strive against those who oppress and transgress
I obsess not depress for martyrdom success."
Hammami reportedly releases new rap song mocking reports of his death on alqimmah.net
The Long War Journal originally published a report March 15th, which quotes a senior US intelligence official saying, "our assessment is Hammami is not dead, at least we see no evidence of it,"
On March 8, Somali's Defense Minister told the Associated Press that the Daphne native had been killed in heavy fighting in Mogadishu and surrounding areas but offered no evidence of the death. US officials at the time would not confirm Hammami's death.
Hammami attended Daphne High School and The University South Alabama before he moved to Somalia in 2006. In Somalia, Hammami rose through the ranks of Shabaab, a militant group with ties to Al Qaeda. Hammami is believed to be a military commander in the terrorist organization.
