Many Pleasure Island businesses are reporting near-record Labor Day profits...much needed profits considering the summer was ruined by the oil spill. Tourism officials haven't released official numbers yet, but they tell News 5 Labor Day 2010 was as good...or better than last year's holiday weekend. Mom and pop shops and small business owners were particularly excited about the weekend. For the first time since the Deepwater Horizon explosion, Memorial Day and July 4th were busts for many hotels, condos, restaurants and gift shops on Pleasure Island...Labor Day jump-started South Baldwin County's struggling economy.

Click on the video link and see what a local ice cream shop owner has to say about his profitable holiday weekend. Dan Farmer owns TCBY treats in Gulf Shores. Farmer thanks News 5 for helping bring in customers.
