Honor Flight: Ken Marshall Remembers the Glamor

PT Boats were made famous, mostly through the service of President John Kennedy and his tour aboard PT 109. At the age of 17, Ken Marshall found himself serving aboard the light, yet lethal boats of WWII. He and his crew patrolled several South Pacific Islands.

Marshall also had a front row seat to one of the atom bomb tests off the Bikini Atoll.

In recent years, Ken Marshall turned to writing. He self-published a memoir 'They Called Me Kenny,' his first book. But went on to write more dedicated to his adopted Chinese granddaughter Maya. All of the proceeds of the sales from his book go to her.

Marshall has survived the war, the death of his son, divorce and separation from his beloved granddaughter. He says he's spent time trying to get over things you never get over.

But he has a bright memory from recent months. Back in May, he went to the World War II Memorial on the South Alabama Honor Flight.

"When you get off the plane in Washington, at Reagan Airport--in the jetway there is a line of marines. And at the end of it I think a Marine General, all saluting us. I've never been saluted by a general in my life," says Marshall.
