Smoke Free Restaurants

Senator Vivian Davis Figures from Mobile is one step closer to getting the statewide smoking ban she’s always wanted, even if it’s a watered down version.
A Senate Committee approved a bill to ban smoking in restaurants throughout Alabama Wednesday.

There is already a local restaurant owner ahead of the game.
David Rasp is the owner of Heroes Sports Bar and the Royal Scam in Downtown Mobile.
Both locations are now smoke-free.

"There was a lot of thought and worry into that, but I ultimately felt it was the right decision for us." The regulars are still returning after the change.

"They've adapted pretty well, and I really haven't had too much negative feedback at all. We've had whole lot of positive feedback for folks who enjoy cleaner air."

Senator Figures, who developed asthma due to second hand smoke, hopes this is finally her year.
"I've been working on this the past 12 years. The most often complaint I hear is that of smoking in restaurants. I decided to tackle the restaurants first."

According to the American Cancer Society, 25 states have laws that require restaurants and bars to be smoke free. Florida prohibits smoking in restaurants and workplaces -- but not in bars. Mississippi and Alabama do not have a statewide smoking ban, but cities around the state have banned it.
