The Theodore man who was hit by a train has died.

Mobile police say 44-year-old Thomas Dalton tried to cross the railroad tracks at Bellingrath Road and Cary Hamilton Road Sunday night, even though the crossing gates were down and the warning lights were flashing.

The train hit Dalton's 1996 Chrysler New Yorker and pushed it for about a quarter mile. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to cut Dalton out of the car. He was taken by Life Flight to USA Medical Center where he was pronounced died.

Police are not investigating Dalton's death as a suicide.
