District Attorney John Tyson says he will not file charges against a former Mobile police officer who resigned amidst allegations that he had sex with a 16 year old girl.
In Alabama, the age of consent is 16. Since the girl consented to having sex with Marshall Freeman, Tyson said his office has no reason to get involved in the case.
Police put officer Michael Freeman on administrative leave March 3rd and launched an investigation. The department says Freeman resigned Thursday instead of facing an administrative hearing.
Freeman, a 20-year-veteran of the department, was assigned to the Community Services Division where he worked closely with young children.
