The instructor of the Mobile County Public Schools says it's as bad as drinking and driving. "Your attention has to be on driving. If you're texting, your attention is on not just pushing buttons but thinking about what buttons to push."
Smith lines up cones about 25 feet apart and gets drivers to weave through the course and text at the same time. It doesn't go well.
17-year old Michael Harper says he has all the keys memorized and can do it easily. He gets behind the wheel and realizes it's pretty tough.
Check out the video to see what else happens as we text our way through the course.
The Alabama Senate is considering a bill to ban texting while driving. If it passes, a ticket would start at $25 dollars and double for repeat offenders.
