It's hard to say no to anyone holding a puppy. There were plenty being shown off at a news conference at Mobile City Hall today, 3/11/10.
“A lot of people have to abandon their pets because they simply cannot afford to do it any longer,” says Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood. Animal Control officials held a news conference urging people to not only spay and neuter their pets but also keep them under control.
“The best solution is to spay neuter and confine your pet, and please tell all your friends and family to spay neuter and confine,” says Director of General Services Donna Jones. County officials say 8,000 pets are abandoned in Mobile County a year.
“Today we ask you to stand with us as a community because we feel like we can just do a better job than that,” says Ludgood. County officials say they need the public's help; they simply don't have the resources to house all the pets in the county
“When you are looking to adopt please consider the county animal shelter,” says Jones. County officials say 4,700 pets were given to the new animal shelter in less than a year because many could no longer afford to care for them. For more information you can go here.
