Ask anyone that knew Johnny Ethridge and you'll probably get the same response.
“Real good guy, devoted fisherman you know, a good guy all around,” says Larry Scott. He owns Scott's Landing along the causeway and was one of the last people to see Johnny before he set out on Mobile Bay this morning. Friends say he was a devoted fisherman who knew the waters along the causeway very well
“Johnny was one of the guys that knew when the fish should be biting and he would come by and look at the water, see what things look like and go from there,” says Larry Scott. Family members declined to speak on camera, but describe the 68-year-old Mobilian as a devoted grandfather and sportsman. They say he would go fishing several times a week. His body was found on the Daphne side of Mobile Bay this morning, a short distance away from his boat. Family members say it was a new vessel and had only been used a couple of times.
“It was a small boat, and Johnny was a pretty big guy and the water was kind of rough but like I said, Johnny's well experienced well experienced so you wouldn't have thought anything about it,” says Larry Scott. Authorities believe this was an accident. The exact cause of death is still under investigation.
