Elberta Mayor Marvin Williams says now is not the time to panic when it comes to the economy.
"Somebody has cried wolf," says Williams. "There's no wolf going to bite you."
Rumors have been circulating across town about layoffs and cutbacks because of a seven-percent decline in local tax revenue. But Williams says he won't let any town employees go...in the immediate future.
"The only thing you can do is cut labor costs, if it gets down to that point, we might have to make a decision to make cuts," says Williams. "At this point, I don't see that happening between now and the end of this fiscal year. Be positive! We're going to make it! This town has been here for 100 years. We're not going to die! We're here!"
A town meeting will be held next Tuesday to talk about Elberta's financial situation. The meeting is at 6pm at Town Hall.
