Despite the down economy, we found nearly a dozen local employers looking to hire. They were recruiting at a Bishop State Job Fair Tuesday. But the competition is tougher than ever these days. Just ask Phyllis Richie. She never thought she would be back in school at 46. But, the single mom of 5 got laid off last year. Now, she's at Virginia College studying the medical field, dealing with student loans, and hoping it will land her a more stable job down the road, "I just want to work, I have to work," said Richie. That's why she was at the job fair. So, in this tight job market, what can you do to get your resume to the top of the list? We asked one job recruiter for the health care industry that question, "just not give up, just really continue to try and make connections, whether it be through volunteer experiences or just through friends, just try to make as many connections as possible," said AltaPointe Health Systems Human Resources Specialist, Lisa Nelson. Nelson says her local company has at least 30 openings.
