Spring Break 2010 has kicked off in South Baldwin County this week. College students from across the U-S are heading to Pleasure Island to blow off a little steam...and spend lots of money!
"We're just coming down here to relax," says Georgia State University student Matt Segars. "It's the middle of the semester and we need a break."
"We thought the prices were going to be jacked up, but in comparison to where we live, it's not that big of a deal," says Georgia State University student Lauren Freeman."
For the next six weeks, tens of thousands of college students will pack Baldwin County's beachfront bars, restaurants and hotels, generating millions of dollars in much-needed revenue.
"We're starving," says Louis Delaparra. Delaparra owns Bizarre Bazaar Gift Shop in Orange Beach. "We're looking forward to Spring Break to relieve a lot of the downfall of winter. So we welcome them, we welcome the weather and we're looking forward to a good summer."
Next week should be a busy one for local businesses. Both Alabama and Auburn are on Spring Break...and many students will head to Baldwin County.
