Victoryland Casino reopened Friday in what I can best describe as a low key fashion. The doors were open and people were allowed to walk in Friday afternoon. Governor Bob Riley says he's not surprised by a court order forbidding action by John Tyson Junior's task force.
“You can't allow 2 or 3 counties to disobey the law, to say ‘we don't care what the Supreme Court says, we're going to continue to operate,’" says Riley. The governor was speaking to party faithful today in Robertsdale. Afterwards he talked to reporters about bingo. He says they'll appeal to the state supreme court and win with precedent on their side.
“If you look back over the last two or three times you've had this debate when you go to the Supreme Court and the court says that judge that judge cannot do what he did,” says Riley. Attorney General Troy King says he believes if the governor went through the courts in the first place, this issue would be put to bed.
“Let the courts decide this matter don't go under the cover of night with hundreds of state troopers and without warrants and raid places, there are better ways to do this,” says King.
