Over six millions pounds of oysters will soon be relocated in Mobile Bay. The new home is a new reef.

"The big benefit of this is that it is going to put oystermen back to work harvesting and get some oysters back on the market."
John Mareska is a biologist for the Division of Marine Resources.

"Our target is 100,000 sacks, and we're going to try and accomplish this in ten working days." Each sack weighs 65 pounds. The plan is to move oysters from one location to another.

"The area we're going to take the oysters from is south of the Brookley airstrip, down to just north of Dog River Channel."

It will take three weeks for the oysters to clean themselves, and then they'll be ready to harvest. The million pound oyster move is expected to take 10 days.
