A Mobile County teacher accused of soliciting sex from an undercover police officer will be back in court this month.

Danny Moncla, who teaches gifted students at Grand Bay Middle School, was arrested last July and charged with misdemeanor loitering.

Daphne police busted Moncla, 59, during an undercover operation at the Scenic Overlook near Interstate 10.

"He approached our undercover officer and just started a casual conversation, which then turned into a sexual conversation," said Lt. Jud Beedy at the time of Moncla's arrest. The conversation eventually ended with Moncla asking the undercover officer for sexual favors.

According to online court records, Moncla's trial is scheduled for March 29th.

Moncla was never disciplined by the Mobile County School District because his arrest happened while school was not in session, according to Nancy Pierce, a spokesperson for Mobile Schools.
