BP promised to hire local people to help with the oil spill clean-up but the company failed to keep its promise when some boaters from Texas showed up ready to get to work.
Thursday, the boaters hanging around the Lowe's parking lot in Theodore and at the staging area at Theodore High School.
When News Five asked BP if it hired the boaters for the vessels of opportunity program a spokesperson said, no.
However, the company came back and said the out of state workers were hired under contract with BP and are with the national response corporation.
William Butler of Mobile says he is upset that anyone from out of state is helping to clean the Gulf.
"Nobody is going clean our water the way we will. This belongs to us. This is our water. It's not BP it's ours. BP needs to respect us for what they damaged that belongs to us," said Butler.
The workers from Texas are specialized boat skimmers and are certified with the Coast Guard.
They are considered professionals and do not have to go through any special training.
