Family and friends said their final goodbyes to an airmen killed in battle in Afghanistan.
Funeral services were held Monday morning for Staff Sergeant David Smith of Eight Mile.
He served in the Air Force for Operation Enduring Freedom.
His mission was to fly into war zones and rescue wounded soldiers.
On June 9th, the Taliban shot down Smith's helicopter and caused it to crash.
"Just in this last deployment that he was in, before he had the unfortunate events happen, he's directly related to saving 120 people's lives in that mission, in that time frame. And he's done that before, this wasn't his first time in Afghanistan," said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Clayton Krein.
During Monday's funeral services, he was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.
