The Alabama Department of Health issued a swim advisory for the waters off Dauphin Island because of the presence of oil.
Officials are asking people not to get into the ater.
Tuesday, brown globs that appeared to be tarballs made their way to the public beach.
News Five found crews scooping up the tar balls out of the water and putting them in trash bags.
The sighting definitely became the main attraction for beach goers.
Louisiana State University Geologist Annette Engel said the globs are consistent with what researchers have seen on Grande Isle, Louisiana.
The national guard and other crews are waiting for the oil to get closer to land so they can treat and clean the water as soon as possible.
