Supreme Court Bingo Ruling

Another Victory for Illegal Gambling Task Force

The Alabama Supreme Court overruled a lower court ruling today that blocked an attempted raid at Victoryland in January. A Macon county judge banned the illegal gambling task force from moving in. The high court's action throws out the ban leaving Victoryland vulnerable to the task force. "Another, yet another in a large string of cases now where the unqualified opinion of the supreme court is that the governor and the governor's task force on illegal gambling is correct in their interpretation of the law", says Illegal Gambling Task Force Commander John Tyson, Jr. He says bingo machines are illegal slot machines despite the outcry to keep them running for the sake of jobs.

Victoryland attorney Mark White says the supreme court ruling makes the governor a king with "unchecked power" over local officials. "If the governor happens to be your friend you like this opinion. But, if you want the system to be fair and impartial and the governor is not your friend then you got a problem", says White.

The governor says his latest victory means local officials can no longer protect gambling bosses. Tyson calls it a long ounding alarm that should be heard by everyone engaged in illegal gambling.
