A piece of debris from a Chinese satellite may pass close enough to the International Space Station that the crew may need to take shelter in their Soyuz spacecraft this afternoon, NASA said Thursday.
New tracking data shows that the object will make its closest approach to the International Space Station at 1:47 p.m. ET. Additional tracking data is expected soon, but NASA said the object has proven difficult to track precisely.
Mission control centers in the U.S. and Russia are keeping a close eye on the debris, NASA said.
