You can help a local preschool for children with autism, win a $250,000 grant. The Little Tree Preschool is competing with other programs across the country as part of the Pepsi Refresh Project. The Bay Area Food Bank won a $100,000 grant from Pepsi earlier this summer. The program with the most number of votes, receives the grant.
The Little Tree is the only preschool in the area, geared toward helping children with autism. The school only has thirty-six students. Half have autism. The other half are typical children. The children with disabilities attend the school for free, and each receives one-on-one attention in the classroom. Teacher Melanie Tew says winning the $250,000 grant from Pepsi would allow them to serve even more children. "We are a very small organization. We only have three classrooms. We have the constant need for expansion. We have a waiting list a mile long. There aren't many schools that provide the services we provide in the area."
The Little Tree is competing against nearly 250 other programs across the country.
