George County officials held a press conference for the murder of Sheriff Garry Welford the morning after his death. The press conference took place 9:30 a.m. in Lucedale.

18-year-old Brandy Williams and 24-year-old Christopher Baxter have been charged with capital murder in the death of George County Sheriff Garry Welford.

Police believe Brandy Williams was driving the truck that hit and killed Sheriff Welford. The two suspects were arrested Thursday morning around 6:20 a.m. at a mobile home near the George and Greene County Line . They were found close to the area where they abandoned their pickup truck.

Members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Special Operations Group made the arrest after receiving special help from local residents. "The community assisted greatly in the arrest tips which actually led us to the arrest", said District Attorney Tony Lawrence.

The two suspects will make a court appearance in George County today, and then the pair will be houses somewhere outside of the county in which they were arrested. "We do it all the time in capitol cases," explained Lawrence. "This is nothing unusual but I just think that's the best procedure."
