Like a lot of people in line today, 1/23/10, Ezekal Robinson is making his first step to what he hopes is a new, permanent job after a year long search.
“Well working here working there you have to do what you have to do to survive you know,” says Robinson. Hundreds turned out for a ThyssenKrupp job fair looking for work in high end industrial jobs.
Director of Human Resource services Rob Rice is the first person many of the applicants meet. He almost has more hands to shake than he knows what to do with.
“With the unemployment rate as high as it is and the high quality jobs we offer, it's good for us to have a high candidate pool,” says Rice. Some of these applicants have been looking for work for the last six months to a year, and many say they're putting their best foot forward to find a job this time around.
“Oh, very optimistic cause you know like I said, I'm qualified to do work and I think I got a good chance of getting it so that's what I'm hoping for,” says applicant Detrick L. Bagsby.
The story from people like Ernest Isham is one you can hear over and over again in line.
“Just the company I was working for ran out of work and I got laid off,” he says. Isham hopes his days of coming to job fairs can soon come to an end. Applicants went on to a series of interviews and some had to pass a certification test. Company officials say they are trying to fill 50 positions with the job fair.
