Construction is moving rapidly at the Thyssenkrupp steel plant in Calvert set to open in a few months.
Thyssenkrupp representative Scott Posey says, "The scope of this project, the schedule of this project has not changed since it was first announced two years ago. So, we're excited. We're going to be in business in spring of 2010, and we're looking for some people to help us make that business successful".
Thyssenkrupp needs to hire fifty workers to install and maintain the infrastructure, wastewater treatment and all the electrical equipment that goes along with that.
So the company is holding a job fair tomorrow morning at 9 AM the AIDT Training Center in Mobile's Festival Center.
"These are particularly highly skilled positions, and we want to make sure we get people with good experience, and good work ethic, and we feel like this is a good way to meet candidates face to face", says Posey.
If industrial maintenance isn't your specialty, you can always tap into the resources at Alabama's Career Center.
Mobile Works President Sydney Raine says the key is persistence, "You have to be focused on what it is you want to do. If you don't have the skills for a particular job, thats open that you're interested in..then I would encourage those individuals to go back to school on a short term basis to get additional training".
Here's another good lead. Raine says The Career Center is teaming up with The South Alabama Regional Planning Commission for a huge jobs fair.
It's April 23rd at The Mobile Civic Center. They'll have 75 vendors from all over the region...Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida taking job applications.
