When it comes to floods, Dewitt Browder is the most popular man in the Styx River community. Browder runs a water taxi service whenever it floods, shuttling people across the swollen Styx River.
More than a dozen families on the north side of the river have been stranded and cut off for two days. Boat travel is the only option. It's more than just an inconvenience. The local fire department is south of the Styx River on County Road 68...if a 9-1-1 call is dispatched on the north side of the river, the closest fire truck is 30 minutes away in Bay Minette.
"We've go some people over there in bad health right now and it's kind of scary for for that reason," says Browder. "And I worry about them. Another thing, if a house catches on fire, there's no protection."
The water has receded, but by car...County Road 68 is impassible.
