Wednesday Night Storms Create Chaos for Mobile Area

Heavy rain flooded streets in downtown Mobile.
Mobile Fire Rescue came to the aid of a woman who tried to drive through the floodwaters.
This happened around nine o'clock at Gayle and Virginia streets.
You could see the water building up pretty quickly up to the wheel well.
Firefighters responded to one stranded vehicle after another.

We had several calls from Tillman's corner.
Folks reporting the parking lot there underwater.

No word on whether lightning is to blame for a house fire on Domain Street in Mobile.
Heavy smoke could be seen coming out of the roof. No injuries to report.

Authorities reported traffic signal problems at Hillcrest Road and Grelot Road. The lights are flashing because of power outages.

Before 10pm, Alabama Power reported 46 hundred customers without electricity.
Three thousand customers were in the dark downtown because four sub-stations were out.
In Grand Bay, 600 customers were without power, and another one thousand customers scattered throughout the city.
