Storms Prompt Calls For Water Rescues

Storms Prompt Calls For Water Rescues

Midtown area is especially hard hit.

Emergency crews around Mobile stayed busy Wednesday night and Thursday morning answering calls for water rescues.
Often, when they arrived, they found the cars abandoned.
But there were still some scary moments for motorists.
The midtown area was especially hard hit.
Near Gayle and Virginia Streets, crews waded in knee deep water to get to a car.
Fortunately, no one was reported hurt here, or at the underpass at Old Shell and Sage Street, where another car was tossed sideways by the deep water.
There was another water rescue call on Duncan Street, but it seemed even the car made it out here.
However, other stalled cars kept plenty of tow truck operators busy.
News Five found a mother and daughter on Glenwood Street near Airport Boulevard about 11:30 Wednesday night.
Dorothy Jones of Mobile said, "My daughter was trying to get home and her car flooded out right here. She ran into three feet of water and she called mama."
Her car met the same fate as many others around the area: it got towed.
