Severe Weather Floods And Fades

Heavy rains flood certain parts of Mobile and Baldwin Counties overnight. The problems subsided by the morning commute for most.

By the morning rush hour, this was as bad as it got with flooding. Just one lane closed on Highway 98 because of high waters. It was a completely different story during the night. At several spots around town, roads were flooded and cars and drivers were getting stranded

“My daughter was getting out, I was trying to get home and her car slid out, she ran into three feet of water,” says Mobile driver Dorothy Jones. Officials with the tunnel authority were busy Tuesday morning cleaning up a mudslide that shut down one lane of the causeway bypass in Spanish Fort. However, that didn't prove to be a problem for the morning commute. Traffic was open in both directions and moving smoothly this morning--you would see flooding in the normal spots, but nothing treacherous. People were having more problems overnight keeping water out of their businesses. One shop on Grand Bay Wilmer road was having particular problems with water.

“People were pulling at the four-way and the waves were coming and all clear through the store,” says store employee Amy Evans. For some it was just a busy night trying to get roads clear for the morning commute.

“Usual washouts anytime we get a heavy rain like this we have a problem with washout throughout the county, this has been a problem for us and will continue,” says Mobile County worker Mark Robinson. He was with a crew trying to clear roads for the morning commute.
