Students and faculty at Springhill College are marking the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tonight, 1/17/10. The school held its annual night-time observance of the holiday with a traditional religious service. This year they combined the king celebration with Sunday night student worship. Dozens attended the service. The money gathered in this evening's collection is going to an elementary school in Haiti that survived the recent earthquake.
“One of our alumni told me about this school so I thought it was appropriate tonight that our student's offerings go to help, it's certainly something Dr. King would be encouraging us to do,” says Director of Campus Ministry Maureen Bergan. The ceremony ended with a student reception on campus.
