Children also took time out to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Members of big Zion AME Zion Church held a special service for the late civil rights leader. It was put on by children in the congregation. These are pictures from the ceremony. Children read passages marking the different phases of the life of Dr. King. Organizers say it's important to teach children King's message.
“By using [children] they get an opportunity to really know the meaning of peace unity, justice and love for all people,” says director of Christian education Helen H. Collins. Big Zion is one of Mobile's oldest African American churches. It recently celebrated an anniversary a few months ago.
