Thousands of Alabama football fans came out to celebrate the Crimson Tide's national championship and got a promise from coach Nick Saban.

Saban told about 30,000 people Saturday that this year's title is "just the beginning" for Alabama. He said he intends to make Alabama the nation's most consistent winner, and drew a huge cheer when he held up the crystal football from the Bowl Championship Series trophy.

The university staged the celebration at Bryant-Denny Stadium to mark its undefeated season and BCS championship victory over Texas. Fireworks went off and the band played, but the biggest cheer came when Saban introduced the team.

TV stations showed the event statewide on a damp, chilly afternoon.
