Foley Fire Death Ruled Accident

Foley Fire Death Ruled Accident

Investigators rule out foul play in Christmas fire that killed a Baldwin County man

A fatal fire at Foley High School Christmas day has been ruled an accident. Investigators say Lance Bammer died in the shed fire. Evidence collected at the scene suggests the blaze was an accident.

"We have no reason to believe the fire or fire death are anything but accidental," says Foley Fire Chief Joey Darby.

Investigators say Bammer was visiting family in Foley, was going through personal issues, decided to take a walk and never returned. Officials believe Bammer went into the storage shed to stay warm as an approaching cold front pushed across Baldwin County.

"After the front, we had some very cold temperatures so he could have been seeking shelter from both the storm and later from the cold temperatures," says Darby.

"There might have been alcohol involved," says Foley Police Chief David Wilson. "And cigarettes which probably led to the fire."
