A former circuit court judge found not guilty of sexually abusing inmates is now considering a run for the Alabama State Senate.
Herman Thomas' attorney, Bob Clark, says Thomas has not yet decided whether he will challenge incumbent Senator Vivian Figures, but he is considering the idea.
Figures, who testified against Thomas during his three week jury trial last October, has held the District 33 seat since 1997.
Clark says Thomas has not yet solicited his support, but he would give it to Thomas if asked. "Thomas' entire life has been dedicated to public service," said Clark. "I think he sincerely wants to be of public use."
Thomas stepped down from the circuit court bench in October 2007 after he was accused of paddling and sexually abusing defendants in his courtroom. Thomas was acquitted of all of the charges in October 2009 and is currently fighting to get back his law license, which was suspended after he was indicted last April.
Senator Figures did not immediately return News Five's call for a comment.
