Investigators in Baldwin County say an Alabama state trooper was assaulted during a traffic stop. The attack happened Monday on County Road 26 south of Foley. Investigators say the trooper pulled the driver over for speeding and discovered the man had outstanding warrants. Before the trooper could detain the suspect, investigators say the man punched the officer in the face and ran into a nearby field.

The trooper called for back-up and within minutes, officers were on the scene and had the field surrounded. A police helicopter was called in to assist by air...K-9 units tracked the suspect in the field. After a two-hour manhunt, the suspect was arrested...cold, wet and exhausted.

Alonzo Prim was charged with assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, no seat belt, and no proof of insurance. The state trooper was not seriously injured.
