Carrie Taylor's family and friends spent the first day of 2010 putting out donation jars at convenience stores in North Baldwin County. Taylor, who was severely burned when police say her ex-boyfriend doused her in "Liquid Fire"...underwent surgery earlier this week and will remain in the hospital for several more days. Taylor will then face months of physical therapy and follow-up doctor's visits.

Taylor does not have health insurance.

"Everyone knows the hospital is expense, you can run up to a thousand dollars a day," says Taylor's uncle, Rip Cochrane. "It could cost tens if not up to 100-thousand dollars because the rehab will go three, four maybe even six months."

So far, Taylor's family has put out ten donation jars and will put more out in other locations next week. Cochrane says every little bit will help.

"It doesn't matter how much someone wants to give, if it's a dollar or a quarter or 50 cents," says Cochrane.

Taylor's ex-boyfriend, Mario Mendez, is still behind bars, unable to post bond. Mendez has been charged with three felonies.
