An altercation at a party claims the life of a Brewton teen and now a Santa Rosa County man is behind bars charged with his murder.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, 21 year-old Robert Floyd was arrested following an altercation at a party being thrown at his home on Country Mill Road in Jay, Florida. Deputies say four men from Brewton arrived at the party. Floyd says the men were asked to leave claiming they were uninvited. After they refused to leave, deputies say Floyd pushed one of the men. That's when Floyd claims one of the men pulled out a gun. According to deputies, Floyd said he ran to his truck and and got his rifle. Around that time, Floyd said he heard gunshots and then fired his rifle in the direction of the fleeing vehicle.
A short time later, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Brewton Police Department saying that one of the men in the vehicle had arrived at the hospital. 18 year-old Getyron Benjamin died at the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.
Deputies say all of the men inside of the vehicle claimed no gun was ever fired from anyone inside the vehicle and no firearm has been found.
After being interviewed by authorities, Floyd was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail with no bond. He is being charged with a count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
